Curtain Raiser for Wichita Rock Wall Sculpture Painting
Background on the piece:
When I set out to create this work, I knew there was not a lot of local petroglyphs or pictographsof indigenous art to work with. I was going for a little more artistic than historical reference. My work here is not fantasy nor text book native American art, and by no means is this a representation of such art but a tribute to Wichita's history of our first locals.
Meaningful symbols play a part in bringing this tribute forward, and was taken seriously with honor, and reverence. The piece measures 49x69 and is crafted much like a movie prop, created in layers from foam and then textured and painted. The artwork was done mostly with airbrush and some detail brush work.
